# Security Improvements Applied

## Overview
This document outlines the security improvements implemented during the penetration testing and security audit conducted on the Laravel application.

## 1. Rate Limiting for Admin Login ✅

**Vulnerability**: Brute force attacks on login endpoint
**Fix Applied**: Added throttle middleware to admin login route

```php
// routes/web.php
Route::post('/admin/login', [AdminAuthController::class, 'login'])
    ->name('admin.login.post')
    ->middleware(['throttle:5,1']);
```

**Impact**:
- Maximum 5 login attempts per minute per IP
- Prevents automated brute force attacks
- Returns 429 Too Many Requests after limit exceeded

---

## 2. File Upload Security Enhancements ✅

**Vulnerability**: Malicious files disguised as images (executable files with image extensions)

**Controllers Updated**:
- `SlideController.php` (store & update methods)
- `PortfolioController.php` (store & update methods)
- `SettingController.php` (update method)

**Fix Applied**: Added `getimagesize()` validation using magic bytes

```php
// Example from SlideController
$file = $request->file('image');
$imageInfo = @getimagesize($file->getRealPath());
if ($imageInfo === false) {
    return back()->withErrors(['image' => 'File yang diupload bukan gambar valid.'])->withInput();
}
```

**Impact**:
- Verifies file is actually an image by reading file headers (magic bytes)
- Prevents PHP shells or executables disguised as .jpg/.png
- Works in combination with existing Laravel validation (mimes, max size)

**Existing Protections Already in Place**:
- MIME type validation: `mimes:jpg,jpeg,png,webp`
- File size limits: `max:2048` (2MB) or `max:4096` (4MB for slides)
- Dimension constraints on logo: `dimensions:max_width=2000,max_height=2000`
- Files stored in `storage/app/public/` (not directly executable via web)
- SVG removed from allowed types in SettingController

---

## 3. CSRF Protection ✅

**Status**: Already properly implemented

**Coverage**:
- All POST/PUT/DELETE forms include `@csrf` directive
- AJAX requests include `X-CSRF-TOKEN` header
- Laravel's `VerifyCsrfToken` middleware active globally

**Verified Files**:
- Admin forms: login, slides, portfolios, services, settings, users, contacts
- Public contact form: includes hidden `_token` field and AJAX header

---

## 4. XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) Protection ✅

**Audit Results**:
- Only 1 instance of `{!! !!}` found in `resources/views/components/dimg.blade.php`
- Usage: `{!! $attrStr !!}` for HTML attributes (width, height, class, style)
- **Safe**: All values are properly escaped using Laravel's `e()` helper before output

```blade
// dimg.blade.php - SAFE USAGE
if ($width) $attrs[] = 'width="'.e($width).'"';
if ($height) $attrs[] = 'height="'.e($height).'"';
if ($class) $attrs[] = 'class="'.e($class).'"';
if ($style) $attrs[] = 'style="'.e($style).'"';
$attrStr = $attrs ? ' '.implode(' ', $attrs) : '';
```

**Existing Protections**:
- Default Blade syntax `{{ }}` auto-escapes all output
- Security headers middleware includes `X-XSS-Protection: 1; mode=block`

---

## 5. SQL Injection Protection ✅

**Audit Results**: No vulnerabilities found

**Status**: Application uses Eloquent ORM and query builder exclusively
- No raw SQL queries found (`DB::raw`, `whereRaw`, `selectRaw`)
- All database queries use parameter binding
- Search functionality uses proper escaping: `->where('title', 'like', "%$search%")`

---

## 6. Security Headers ✅

**Status**: Comprehensive security headers already implemented

**Middleware**: `App\Http\Middleware\SecurityHeaders`

**Headers Applied**:
```php
X-Frame-Options: DENY
X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff
X-XSS-Protection: 1; mode=block
Referrer-Policy: strict-origin-when-cross-origin
Content-Security-Policy: (environment-specific)
Strict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains (production only)
```

**CSP Policy**:
- Development: Permissive (allows inline scripts/styles, localhost resources)
- Production: Stricter policy enforcing HTTPS and limited sources

---

## 7. Authentication & Authorization

**Authentication**: ✅ Properly secured
- All admin routes protected by `auth` middleware
- Login/logout functionality working correctly
- Session-based authentication with captcha validation

**Authorization**: ⚠️ Needs Attention (if multi-user)

**Current State**:
- No role-based access control implemented
- All authenticated users have full admin access
- No ownership checks (users can modify any data)

**Recommendation**:
If the application will have multiple admin users, implement:
```php
// Example authorization in PortfolioController
public function destroy(Portfolio $portfolio)
{
    // Only allow users to delete their own portfolios
    if ($portfolio->user_id !== auth()->id() && !auth()->user()->isAdmin()) {
        abort(403, 'Unauthorized action.');
    }
    // ... delete logic
}
```

**Note**: For single-user admin applications, current security is sufficient.

## 8. Additional Security Recommendations

### Production Environment (.env)
```env
APP_ENV=production
APP_DEBUG=false
SESSION_SECURE_COOKIE=true
SESSION_SAME_SITE=strict
SESSION_LIFETIME=120
```

### File Permissions
```bash
chmod -R 755 /path/to/dashweb
chmod -R 775 storage
chmod -R 775 bootstrap/cache
```

### Server Configuration (Nginx)

**For deployment with non-standard ports**:
```nginx
location / {
    try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$query_string;
}
# Pass proper headers for Laravel
location ~ \.php$ {
    fastcgi_param SERVER_PORT $server_port;
    fastcgi_param HTTPS $https if_not_empty;
    # ... other fastcgi params
}
```

### Database Security
- Use strong passwords for database users
- Limit database user privileges to only necessary operations
- Keep database credentials in `.env` file (never commit to version control)
- Regular backups with encryption

### Session Security
- Use database session driver (already configured)
- Regenerate session ID on login (Laravel does this automatically)
- Clear old sessions regularly: `php artisan session:gc`

---

## Testing

**Run Tests**:
```bash
php artisan test
```

**Expected Results**:
- All tests passing or appropriately skipped
- No security-related failures

---

## Conclusion

The application has been significantly hardened against common web vulnerabilities. The most critical improvements were:

1. **Rate limiting** prevents brute force attacks
2. **Magic byte validation** prevents malicious file uploads
3. **Existing protections** (CSRF, XSS, SQL injection, security headers) were already in place and verified

For production deployment, ensure:
- `APP_DEBUG=false`
- HTTPS enforced
- Proper file permissions
- Regular security updates
- Database backups
- Session security configuration

**Security Level**: High (suitable for production deployment)
